MINUTES OF REGULAR BOARD MEETING
May 1, 2017

CALL TO ORDER:  The Regular Board Meeting was called to order by Chair Walt Hautala at 5:30 p.m. on May 1, 2017 in the Robert L. Olson Conference Room, with the following in answer to roll call.

ROLL CALL:  

Present:   Directors Donna Stevens, Rob Hill, Walt Hautala, Gene Maki, Kathy Undeland, Superintendent Allen.

Absent:  Director Cyndi Worshek

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 

AGENDA AMENDMENT:  Moved by Director Hill seconded by Director Stevens to amend the agenda by adding 5.2, 9.11 and 9.12.

All in favor---Motion passed.

AGENDA APPROVAL:  Moved by Director Undeland, Seconded by Director Hill to approve the agenda as amended.

DISTRICT PATRON AND VISITOR COMMENTS:   Rachel Doherty spoke to the board about the Environmental Science Class and some of the projects they are doing and would like to do in the future.  
Preston Euerle, Construction Manager and Jim Wilson, Architect updated the board on the building project and how the process goes. 

Consent Agenda:  Moved by Director Undeland, seconded by Director Stevens to approve the consent

Proposed Placement of Unrequested Leave of Absence:  Member Hautala introduced the following resolution

LAURA SMITH ON UNREQUESTED LEAVE OF ABSENCE,
TO THE EXTENT OF 0.34 F.T.E.

    BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of Independent School District No. #2711, as follows:

1.    That it is proposed that Laura Smith, a teacher of said school district, be placed on Unrequested Leave of Absence to the extent of 0.34 F.T.E., effective at the end of the 2016-2017 school year on June 30, 2017, pursuant to M.S. 122A.40.  Pay and fringe benefits may be affected based on any fractional F.T.E. retained.

2.    That said proposed placement on unrequested leave of absence is not the result of the implementation of an education district agreement.

3.    That written notice be sent to said teacher regarding the proposed placement on unrequested leave of absence as provided by statute, and said notice may include a date for a hearing, if one is requested, and be in substantially the following form:

Pay and fringe benefits may be affected based on any fractional F.T.E. retained. 

    Your proposed placement on unrequested leave of absence to the extent of 0.34 F.T.E. is not the result of the implementation of an education district agreement.

    By statutory provisions, you are entitled to a hearing before a hearing officer appointed by the School Board providing that you make a request in writing within fourteen (14) days after receipt of this notice.   If no hearing is requested in writing within such period, it shall be deemed acquiescence by you to the School Board's proposed action.  Please advise if such a hearing is requested.

Contract for 2017-2020 as presented.

Municipal Lease Purchase Agreement – Bus Purchases:  Moved by Director Undeland, seconded by Director
Stevens to approve the Municipal Lease Purchase Agreement with Santander Bank for the purchase of two (2)
2018 IC/CE 59+1 w/c Lift buses.

All in favor---Motion passed.

Cafeteria Worker Assignment:  Moved by Director Maki, seconded by Director Hill to assign Renee Grivette to the
position of Cafeteria Worker up to 26 ¼ hours per week effective April 24, 2017.

Cafeteria Worker Hire:  Moved by Director Undeland, seconded by Director Hill to hire Melissa Lamppa as Cafeteria
Worker up to 31 ¼ hours per week, step 0 effective April 24, 2017.

Accept Donations:  Moved by Director  Hill, seconded by Director Maki to accept the following donations: 
Monetary donation of $25 to be used for Kids Closet.

JH Softball Stipend:  Moved by Director Hill, seconded by Director Undeland to approve Crystal Pokorny as a JH Softball Coach and to split the JH Softball Coach stipend between Chad Thomas and Crystal Pokorny for the entire season.

All in favor---Motion passed.

Summer Marching Band/Summer Band Lessons:  Moved by Director Stevens, seconded by Director Hill to approve funding for the 2017 Summer Marching Band not to exceed $3,150 ($2,500 for band director, $500 for an assistant band director and $150 for a flag coach) and Summer Band lessons not to exceed $2,500.

All in favor---Motion passed.
